Forgotten

To the tune of “Glencoe

The dawn of the sixties
The nation was blessed;
Our fortunes were rising;
Our leaders new best.
Though danger was signaled
Far off in the west,
The words of the wise were forgotten.

And bold were the men who got us in
With policies misbegotten.
Confused were the minds of these little men.
Their folly will not be forgotten.

They rounded up soldiers
To send to the fray,
Young lives to expend
And the devil to pay.
The warfare they’d heard of
Was never this way.
The rules of the game were forgotten.

And bold were the men who sent them in,
With policies misbegotten.
Confused were the minds of these little men;
Their folly will not be forgotten.

Seeing no end to
The war took its toll.
To kill more than they did
Was our only goal.
That we were there playing
A rescuer’s role
Was almost completely forgotten.

And bold were the men who kept us in
With policies misbegotten.
Confused were the minds of these little men;
Their folly will not be forgotten.

For rosy projections
We soon lost our zeal.
Our man had a plan
That he would not reveal.
For his re-election
His men cut a deal,
And prisoners there were forgotten.

And cold were the men who did them in,
And left them in Asia rotting,
And black was the sin of these little men.
This outrage will not be forgotten.
This outrage will not be forgotten.
